Chapter 6- Fact Sheets, Advisories, Media Kits, and Pitches

Posted on: October 7, 2010

In chapter six of  Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques by Dennis L. Wilcox we learned about pitching. I especially liked the section about pitching to bloggers. Blogging has become a huge media outlet and reaches a very large audience. Because of their large following, bloggers have a large influence on public opinion. A very important part of pitching is research. By doing your homework on a blogger, you can see what their most recent opinions are and make sure not to pitch an idea to them that they’ve already blogged about. It is also important to build a relationship with the author of the blog. Comment on some of their posts and send them a personal email to help facilitate the growth of the relationship.
